What is ‘Your Call’?
Your Call will help you understand how to stay safe in a road environment. Sounds simple, but 11-14 year-olds are statistically the most at risk age group. So this site helps you look at your own behaviour and experiences, and what you could do differently in the road environment.
It’s not just ‘...look right, look left’
There’s more to road safety than you might think. We will also look at bullying, peer pressure, personal safety, distractions, hazards, decision making and risk taking. You will be encouraged to self-reflect on your behaviour in the road environment and in cars with friends.
We’ve kept Your Call very interactive. Lessons reflect the need to build on discussion skills, personal reflection, group work and aim to provide pupils with the opportunity to challenge their own behaviour and take responsibility for their safety and the safety of others in the road environment.
The resource embraces the key aspirations for Curriculum for Excellence, helping to enable young people to be successful learners, confident individuals, effective contributors and responsible citizens with particular focus on developing skills for life within health and wellbeing.
We’ve split Your Call into two parts:
- Part one – about pedestrians – is for S1/S2, and uses a video drama with 5 follow-up activities.
- Part two – about passengers – is for S2/S3, and uses a video drama with 5 follow-up activities.
This is just a guide though as you will know best how you’d like to make the lessons relevant to your pupils.
